So yesterday Aaron, Lucas and I headed off to Hope, AK- a sleepy little hippy village on the south side of Turnagain Arm. You can see the town from the outskirts of Anchorage, but its nearly a 2 hour drive around the Arm to get there. What a great day- we saw whales in the ocean (but can't tell you what they were) for the first time, and then headed to Hope. You have to drive through Sunshine, AK first- and between there and Hope is a stretch of land that I hope someday that I could set a little cabin on... how pretty... cottonwood fluffs drifting like snow so thick~ We drove forever it seemed up a mountain to a remote campsite and built a great fire thanks to Lucas. After sleeping soundly to the deafening noise of the stream (couldn't hear the bears!) we continued on and 2-tracked our way up the mountain to some abandoned mine sites- went through some great puddles... poor Kia! Hiked around a bit and then headed back down the mountain to see Hope as a village- well, not so much a village but a cluster of shops on "Main Street" with a ton of fisherman on the river- which was TEEMING with Salmon so thick that we could see them in the river from a bridge. We didn't bring our poles though- bummer! Had a great weekend... now back to the real world!
